Getting Started with QSense
From unboxing to first motion data in minutes.
Welcome to QSense. This guide will help you set up your system, connect your sensors and start capturing high-quality motion data quickly and reliably. Whether you are running your first pilot, evaluating the platform, or preparing an integration project โ this is your starting point.
QSense is designed to get you from box to motion data in minutes, without complex setup, calibration-heavy workflows or fragile lab infrastructure.

Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following available:
- QSense IMU sensors (charged)
- A compatible device with wireless BLE support (Windows, macOS, Android or iOS) or the QSense Wireless BLE Dongle (recommended)
- QSense software installed (Windows application or mobile demo app) or custom application.
- QSense Product Manual
- Body straps, wristbands or patches for sensor placement
If you are working with FieldSync or HP215 data loggers, the setup flow is slightly different and described on the respective product pages.
Quick Start โ Your First Measurement in 6 Steps
1. Charge the Sensors
Place the QSense sensors in the docking station or connect them via USB.
A full charge typically takes less than one hour.
The LEDs will indicate charging and readiness.
2. Install the Software
Download and install the QSense software:
- QSense Windows Applicationย โ for full setup, visualization and recording
- QSense Mobile Demo Appย โ for quick testing and demonstrations on Android or iOS
Once installed, launch the application.
3. Power On and Connect
Press the button on each sensor until the LEDs activate.
In the QSense application:
- Scan for available devices
- Select the sensors you want to use
- Connect
Within seconds, the sensors will be visible and ready.
4. Assign Sensors to Body Segments
Assign each sensor to the appropriate body segment (e.g. shank, thigh, upper arm, torso).
This step is essential for:
- correct orientation
- meaningful kinematic interpretation
- accurate 3D visualization
The application provides a simple interface to map sensors to body segments.
5. Calibrate the System
Perform the calibration procedure as instructed in the software:
- Magnetic field mapping
- Orientation calibration
Calibration ensures:
- minimal drift
- stable orientation
- reliable long-term measurements
This step is particularly important in indoor environments or around metal structures.
6. Start Streaming or Recording
You are now ready to:
- view live motion in 3D
- stream data to your application
- or record data for offline analysis
Press Record to capture your first motion session.
Thatโs it โ you are live.
QSense FieldSync Hub
The steps for the FieldSync Hub are slightly different.
- Follow the instructions in the QSense FieldSync HUB manual
- Download the FieldSync HUB Windows application

Sensor Placement & Wearing the System
Accurate motion data depends on correct sensor placement and good mechanical coupling to the body. QSense supports multiple attachment options to suit different applications.
You can use:
- Velcro straps โ flexible, reusable placement on limbs and torso
- Soft fabric straps โ for long-duration or sensitive-skin use
- Wristbands โ watch-style placement for upper limb tracking
- Waterproof patches โ discreet, direct skin attachment for long-term monitoring
- Textile integration โ embedding sensors into clothing or wearables
Guidelines:
- Ensure firm attachment to avoid movement artifacts
- Avoid loose clothing between sensor and body
- Place sensors on rigid segments when possible
Correct placement directly impacts data quality.
Understanding Your Data
QSense is an open motion intelligence platform. Depending on your configuration, you can access:
- raw accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer data
- 6DOF or 9DOF quaternion orientation data
- fused kinematic outputs
- BVH skeletal motion data
- mixed-mode streams (raw + fused in parallel)
You can stream data in real time or record it for offline processing in tools such as MATLAB, Python or your own analytics pipeline.
You stay in control of:
- what data you receive
- at what rate
- in which format
- and how you process it
No closed dashboards. No locked pipelines.
