Why Proper IMU Attachment Matters

The quality of motion data depends not only on the sensor, but also on how it is mounted. Poor attachment can introduce movement artefacts, reduce repeatability and compromise user comfort – especially during longer sessions.

QSense attachment solutions are designed to ensure:

  • Stable fixation to minimise sensor drift and micro-movement
  • Consistent placement for repeatable measurements
  • High user comfort for long-duration wear
  • Flexibility across different body segments and applications

From short performance tests to multi-day monitoring, the right attachment method makes the difference.

QSense Strap & Attachment Options

QSense offers a modular range of attachment solutions to cover different body locations, use cases and user profiles:

  • Standard Hook and Loop Straps – durable, modular and widely applicable
  • Soft Fabric Hook and Loop Straps – skin-friendly for long-term or sensitive use
  • Wristband-Style IMU Holders – intuitive watch-style mounting
  • Waterproof Adhesive Patches – low-profile, direct skin placement
  • Custom Attachment Solutions – on request for OEM and specialised use

Each solution is designed to integrate seamlessly with the QSense IMU Motion Sensor

Standard strap options

Robust, modular mounting for general-purpose use

QSense standard Hook and Loop straps are a versatile solution for secure IMU placement across different body segments. They are designed for fast attachment, reliable fixation and frequent repositioning.

Each strap works in combination with a soft adhesive Hook & Loop counterpart applied to the back of the sensor.

Available sizes:

  • QSM210050 – Hook & Loop strap for Hand XS (25 cm)
  • QSM210051 – Hook & Loop strap for Under Arm or Leg S (35 cm)
  • QSM210052 – Hook & Loop strap for Upper Arm M / Head (45 cm)
  • QSM210053 – Hook & Loop strap for Upper Leg L (65 cm)
  • QSM210054 – Hook & Loop strap for Waist XL (102 cm)
  • QSM210055 – Shoulder Hook & Loop Strap
  • QSM210056 – Hook & Loop Counterpart (soft) – Adhesive patch for the backside of QSense sensors (10 pcs)

These straps are well suited for:

  • Clinical assessments
  • Sports performance analysis
  • Biomechanics research
  • Ergonomics studies

Soft Fabric Hook & Loop strap options

Maximum comfort for long-duration and sensitive use

Soft Fabric Hook & Loop Straps are designed for situations where comfort is critical. Made from ultra-soft, skin-friendly materials, they are ideal for:

  • Rehabilitation programs
  • Long-duration monitoring
  • Elderly or paediatric users
  • Post-operative and sensitive skin use

They provide secure fixation while minimising pressure points and irritation. As with standard straps, a Hook & Loop counterpart is required on the sensor.

Wristband-Style IMU Holders

Intuitive watch-style mounting for upper-limb tracking

The QSense Wristband-Style IMU Holders provide an easy and familiar way to mount sensors on the wrist, similar to wearing a smartwatch. They are ideal for:

  • Upper limb movement analysis
  • Gesture tracking
  • Demonstrations and user-friendly setups
  • Rehabilitation exercises involving the arm and hand

The sensor can be mounted:

  • Inline with the strap (streamlined orientation)
  • Perpendicular to the strap (90° rotated orientation)

Waterproof Adhesive Patches

QSense’s Waterproof Patches are designed for secure, Low-profile, direct skin attachment for continuous monitoring

QSense Waterproof Patches enable discreet, strap-free placement of the IMU sensor directly on the skin. Each patch fully encloses the sensor in a breathable, shower-proof material.

This solution is particularly suited for:

  • Multi-day monitoring
  • Home rehabilitation programs
  • Elderly or cognitively impaired users
  • Situations where low visibility is required

The patch ensures secure placement while maintaining comfort and sensor performance, even in humid or active environments.

How to Choose the Right Attachment Method

The optimal attachment method depends on your application, user group and duration of use.

Consider:

  • Fit & adjustability â€“ different body sizes and segments
  • Comfort â€“ especially for long-term wear
  • Stability â€“ critical for high-movement activities
  • Durability â€“ for repeated use in field or lab
  • Environment â€“ moisture, sweat, clothing interference

If in doubt, our team is happy to advise.
